Dianne Claire Heaney

DIANNE G. HEANEY, (83) passed away November 8, 2017 in Spring, Texas. She was a loving Wife and Mother, and a devoted Nurse. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Heaney, and by her son, Bartholomew Heaney. “Nanny” is survived by her remaining six children (Blaise, Damian, Desireé, Stephanie, Michelle, and Fabian), twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. She was born September 17, 1934 in Eunice, Louisiana, although she grew up in Sunset. After graduating Valedictorian of Sunset High School, the dream to be a nurse caused her to travel over 200 miles to Houston, Texas, where the closest nursing school was available in the 1950’s at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Though she dropped out of college in her senior year to get married to the love of her life, “Jim”, the dream of being a nurse never died. While raising her seven children, she worked in private duty care for many years. In her forties, and many years removed from academia, she again enrolled in nursing school, this time at University of St. Thomas, and graduated magna cum laude. She was inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society. She then went to work in skilled nursing in a hospital setting, and for the last decade of her career worked in geriatrics as a Director of Nurses in various nursing homes. She said “Nursing is the most rewarding career you can have. I love taking care of the elderly, they have done so much for us, all of our lives.” She retired in 2005, and moved from Houston to Spring in 2010. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home, 13102 North Freeway, Houston, Texas 77060, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p m. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 15, 2017 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Heaney asked that donations be made to the Star of Hope Mission by visiting www.sohmission.org. A private Mass and Inurnment will be held for the immediate family at a later date.
