

Emmet Bryan (Al) Fitzsimons, 92, passed away Feb. 11, 2017 at Providence Med. Ctr. He was born May 5, 1924 in Burlington, VT to William and Catherine Fitzsimons. His early years were spent working his Dad’s farm, where life was not easy. His mother, Catherine, passed away when he was 12. He enlisted in the Army at 16 with parental permission. WWII was declared shortly after, where he served in the European campaign, Omaha Beach (Normandy), Italy, and N. Africa. He later served in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam Conflict. He was highly decorated, being cited with (3) Bronze Stars, (8) Battle Stars along with many other Citations of honor. He retired from the Army in 1966 with his family settling in Kansas City, KS. In KCK, his second career was with the BPU in a management position for 20+ years.
He met and married the love of his life and wife of 72 years, Lillian M. Isaac in 1945, while serving in England. They had a typical military life with their two children, living in many locations, such as England, Germany, Hawaii, and throughout the U.S. Putting down roots in KCK was a blessing for all.
His interests were family gatherings, golf, fishing, and annual trips with Lilian to So. Texas for over 20 years, until 2014. Later, reading and the KC Royals were his passion.
His core values throughout his life was – Family, God, & Country. He excelled in all areas! He was a devoted husband, and caring father. We will miss him every day.
He is survived by his wife, Lilian Fitzsimons, daughter, Lynn Hoyt/Jack Hoyt, son Patrick Fitzsimons/Mindy Fitzsimons, grandchildren, Brian Rauter/Becky, Kevin Rauter, Jason Rauter/Mary, Brandon Fitzsimons, Megan Tweed, Morghan Fitzsimons, six great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. One daughter, Catherine Fitzsimons rests in peace at Arlington National Cemetery.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00am, Thursday, February 16th at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., Kansas City, KS, with visitation time from 10:00-11:00am at the church preceding the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed at 10:00am. Interment with Honors will follow at 1:30 pm in Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, KS 66048.
