Soulmate of Jill (Davis) Wirth of Richmond, Missouri joined their children Daniel Ernest and Maggie Mae on June 10, 2016, after a short but courageous battle with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Agent Orange claimed another veteran. Dan was devoted to serving his country and his fellow veterans from 1972 to 1980 on active duty with the United States Army as a Field Artillery Medic with Jill joining him on August 16, 1974 when they were married. He moved to the Richmond area with Jill after leaving active duty in 1980 and joining the Department of Veterans Affairs Kansas City Veterans Administration Hospital Pharmacy Service until his retirement in 2009. Dan was a PUFL member of the American Legion Post 237 serving as 3rd District Commander he was active in local, state and national committees along with serving on the Post 237 Honor Guard and as a Bingo Caller. He was a member of Voiture 3 40/8 where he also held local and state offices with the 40/8. One of his greatest joys was helping youth realize the great scholarship programs in the Oratorical Program (Co-Chairman Zone 2) and Boys State. Born in Clinton, IN on January 28, 1954 to Glenn and Rose Wirth, Dan was the eldest of 7 brothers and sisters. Though brought up in small town life Dan loved the country way raising Registered Quarter Horses with Jill and working cattle with his father and brother in law. He could tell the best true stories about that and his life experiences. He was so proud when the Richmond News reporter stopped and told the story about our Old Gray Mare (Lady 1981-2015) who stood in the pasture. To those of us who knew and loved him this seems too short of a description of Dan. He was the MAN with a huge warm smile and a twinkle in his eyes. You never had to ask for help he was always there, never knowing what a stranger was and his warm voice could calm upset little ones. Dan loved life, his wife, his family, his Country, his critters, Pooch and others too numerous to name. His earthly body and voice may now be gone but to those of us who knew him his love remains still touching our lives in our memories of Honey, Brother, Unk, Cuz, Neighbor and Friend. You left us too soon “Till We Meet Again” my heart will ache. Dan was preceded in death by his children, parents and parent in laws Sparky and Margo Davis.
