Dolores Sillimon was born to Joseph and Celia Oviedo on April 4, 1940 in Los Angeles California. Dolores moved from California at the age of 18 and from 1961 to 1970 was with the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth. She met her future husband Lincoln Sillimon while teaching at Annunciation School in Kansas City, Missouri. Dolores and Lincoln were united in matrimony on July 2, 1971 and together they nurtured four children, Steve, Stephanie, Mark, and Monique. Dolores was a devoted wife to Lincoln for 33 years.
Dolores spent a total of 35 years teaching full time in the parochial and public-school system and for a short period on a part time basis. From 1999 to 2010 she worked with individual and small groups of elementary and middle school children, offering supplemental instruction and support to their classroom work. From 2010-2013 she did volunteer work tutoring students in Reading and Math. She also spent 2 years working for the Catholic Chancery for the Diocese of Kansas City.
Dolores was always looking for opportunities to grow and learn. While teaching full time and raising her family, she went to school part time and obtained her Associates Degree in Data Processing in 1986 and her Master’s Degree in Education and Computer Studies in 1990.
Dolores was involved in numerous activities with her church including Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Marriage Prep, Marriage Encounter, and the Committee for Social Justice. She also became an Associate for the Sisters of Charity of Leavenworth, Kansas.
Dolores had many passions, but none greater than her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Dolores was preceded in death by her beloved husband Lincoln and a daughter, Stephanie (husband, Maurice), her parents Joseph and Celia, brother Joseph “JoJo” and sister- in- law Ginny, and her sister Esther (husband, Bill). She leaves behind her children, Steve (wife, Anita), Mark (wife, Stephanie) and Monique (husband, Londell) and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Mary and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She will be missed dearly by all her family and friends. Dolores was one of those people that showed unquestionable love to all family and could put strangers at ease in a second with her large and beautiful smile and witty pleasantness. She was one of the sweetest persons God ever put on this earth and we were so lucky and grateful to have had her as a part of our life. We are incredibly sad for her passing, but we understand that it is God’s will.
“Now may you rest good and faithful servant and join with your loved ones who have already passed on.”
