

Jerold “Jerry” Tapscott, 57, of Kansas City, MO was called home on April 3, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Thursday, April 7th at the McGilley & Sheil Chapel with a Tribe of Mic-O-Say Ceremony at 6pm and a Masonic Service at 7pm. Funeral service will be held at the chapel on Friday at 1pm with burial to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Jerry was born on Sept. 3, 1953 to Cleo & Dorothy (Tripses) Tapscott in Kansas City, MO where he spent his life. He graduated from Van Horn High School, attended Longview Community College and received a degree in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University in 1977. Jerry worked for the Cities of Independence & Kansas City as a supervisor in Street & Traffic; retiring after 28 years of service. He was an Eagle Scout, a Sachum in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, assistant Scout Master for Troop #21, Cub Master for Pack #21 and District Member at-large for Pioneer Trails District. He was a member of the East Gate Lodge #630, the Travelers Club, the Scottish Rite, Ararat Shrine, OES Chapter #367 and active in many professional Engineering Societies. Jerry was an avid bowler, participating in ABC Tournaments for over 25 years. He loved the outdoors, camping at H. Roe Bartle, hunting and reading. Jerry belonged to Mt. Washington United Methodist Church and their choir. Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Cleo and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Lisa of the home; sons, Jerrod and Jason; his step-son, Charlie Kessler; his mother, Dorothy; a granddaughter, Gabrielle as well as many relatives and friends. The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers at the Hospice House and many friends. His loving ways and contagious smile will be greatly missed.
