John Thomas Murski

On September 8, 2019, John Thomas Murski passed away in his home surrounded by his family. John was born July 29, 1924, in Caldwell, Texas, to John Walter Murski and Pearl Ofczarzak Murski. On June 12, 1942, at the age of 17 and forgoing his senior year of high school, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps to fight in World War II alongside his friends. He fought on the Pacific battlefront earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

On July 9, 1945, he married Eileen Dyer Cully in Neosho, Missouri, where they met when he was stationed at Camp Crowder. They were married for 55 years.

He was honorably discharged from military service on November 5, 1945, and returned to Caldwell, Texas. He began cotton farming and later worked for Alcoa Aluminum Company in Texas. In 1956, the family moved to Atherton, Missouri, and permanently relocated to Greenwood, Missouri, in 1958. He worked for John Deere in Lee’s Summit from 1956 to 1986. He was highly respected for his knowledge of farm equipment repair. Requests for his expertise continued long after he retired from John Deere in 1986 and returned to farming and cattle raising with his sons, Cullen and Kevin. John never knew a stranger. He loved talking to everyone, especially, when he helped sell sweet corn with his son, Kevin’s family the last few years.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen in 2000 and son, David in 2008, his parents, his brother and six sisters. He is survived by his daughter Sharon Murski Forbes, sons, Cullen Murski and his wife, Jan, Kevin Murski and his wife, Sandy and daughter-in-law Paula Murski. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Meghan Forbes, Michael Murski and his wife, Tabitha, Elizabeth Smith and her husband, Bryan, and Mason Murski and his wife Kaley, and three great grandchildren, Chloe Smith, Paige Smith, Wyatt Murski and another great grandchild due in November.

Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2019, from 9:00 until noon with service beginning at noon at Newcomer’s Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri. Burial will be at Floral Hills East Memorial Gardens, Lee’s Summit, Missouri, following the service.
