

A Visitation will be held from 1:00pm to 2:00pm on Sunday, March 4th followed by a Funeral Service at 2:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri. Interment will follow at Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
Mrs. Tarpley was born 13 September 1925 in Kansas City, Missouri to William Lee Stone and Mary Wilburn Burton Stone and was the youngest of six children. She graduated from Central High School in 1942. Later in life she obtained a degree in counseling from Unity School of Christianity. During WWII she worked in a bank in Los Angeles typing war bonds and served as a secretary for the 1st Congregationalist Church of LA. She married John A. Tarpley on 30 October 1943 in Miami Florida. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, an avid reader, active scout mother. She loved movies, sewing and baking pies.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband John Tarpley, grandson Ryan Edelman Tarpley, and daughter-in-law Sharon K Standefer Tarpley.
She is survived by her children William W. Tarpley, Kansas City, Missouri; Carol Travaglione (Bob) Excelsior Springs; Renee D. Kientz, Columbia MO and Timothy B. Tarpley, Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas City grandchildren: Kelly Edelman, Michelle Smith, Chuck, Johnny, Taylor & Tiffany Tarpley, David Travaglione, Jessica Sweet; Caryl Kientz (CA) & Gretchen Kientz (NY). 14 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren, 6 nieces and 4 nephews.
