

Charles Ralph Fields, age 74, of Kingsport, went home to be with his lord on Friday, December 28, 2012 at the Holston Valley Medical Center after a brief illness. Mr. Fields was a Hawkins County native, and was born in 1938 to the late Orlie S. and Nellie Fields. He was a graduate of Sullivan High School; served in the National Guard and graduated from the Thomas Road Bible Institute at Liberty University. Mr. Fields also served as a missionary to Central America. He was the bus director at Tabernacle Baptist Church; a former pastor of Landmark Baptist Church and the owner of Liberty Auto Sales. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Charlie was a people person, had an infectious smile and never met a stranger. He had an easy laugh and left a lasting impression on those he met. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Dorsey Fields and Kermit “Clay” Fields and a grandson, Martin Jaynes Fields.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Judy Fields; son Mike Fields and wife Ruth of Kingsport; daughter, Sherri Edens and husband Chuck of Kingsport; grandkids: Nellie Kate “Kay Kay” Fields, Timothy “Timbuck” Edens and Caleb Edens; sisters: Velma Bragg of Kingsport and Jean Conkin of Kingsport along with several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 8:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Eads, Rev. Cecil Sturgill and Dr. Roy Graves officiating. Special music will be provided by his granddaughter, Kay Kay Fields. A Graveside service will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park. Everyone is asked to assemble in the funeral home chapel by 10:30 a.m. for the service. Pallbearers will be Larry Coomer, Donnie Snapp, David Williams, Jeff Kiser, Alvin Davenport and Joe Crawford. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Williams, E.G. Jones, Darrell Bennett, Joe Robinette and Ronnie Johnson.
