

Whitacre, Hazel Barnard, age 88, of Knoxville, passed peacefully into the arms of the angels on January 31, 2015, at home. A member of Ridgedale Baptist Church and resident of Rockville, MD, she came back to Knoxville, in 1989. Hazel loved shopping, gardening, and most of all just being with her family, not only holidays and special occasions, but anytime.Preceded in death by loving mother and father, Polly A. and William C. Barnard; beloved husband, Cyrus Joe Whitacre; daughter, Kathy Lynn Whitacre; two infant great-grandchildren, Katie and Mason; sisters, Lillian L. Barnard, Mabel L. Campbell; half-sisters, Dosie, Della; brother, Horace (Doodle) Barnard; half-brothers, Doyle, Zack, Harrison; sister-in-law, Merla Gardner; brother-in-law “Buster” Campbell. Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Janice M. Ricketts and husband Bobby; grandchildren, Candi, Nichole, Kenny, April, Tanya, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Josh, Caleb, Jacob, Preston, Dominic, Logan, Gavin, Little Hazel; great-great-grandchild soon to be arriving. She will also be sadly missed by nieces and nephews, Diane, Linda, Allen, and Kenneth, brother-in-law, Dave and best friend, Opal, who loved her dearly; many cousins, neighbors and friends, too numerous to name. Family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral Home, Tuesday, from 5 until 7 pm; funeral service to follow.
