Louis Roman was as decent and civil a man as I have ever met.  He showed his kindness and consideration in ways too numerous to mention, but never to be forgotten.

Louis Roman saved my sanity in the mid-1950s.  He was the JV basketball coach at the time, and he brought my game along by explaining, demonstrating and LISTENING!  He was a good classroom teacher, too, and seems to me now an emblem of the kind of consideration and civility we say we want in our society.

Dear Laura and Chris,

A short note from an old teacher and neighbor.  You might recall that when you lived on St. Clair Rd. you probably played in the woods behind the houses across the street from your home.  Eventually those woods became part of my property when I lived on Paper Mill Rd.  I sold the house and property to a builder.  There are now six expensive homes where those woods used to be.

When I first came to teach in Springfield, 1954, your dad was a high school basketball coach with Stan Novak.  I also think he coached baseball.  Subsequently, he became my " boss"  as both my Principal and later as the Superintendent.  He was well liked and respected by the faculty.... he kept teacher's meetings short :)  :) !!  He treated me exceptionally well and made my teaching career memorable and pleasurable.

We maintained our frienship after we each retired by exchanging Christmas Cards with brief updates about our lives and families.  What was special to me was that he continued to send me the cards even when the parkinsons made it difficult for him to write.

Bottom line:  He was a good friend and an exceptional professional educator.  I have great memories of your Dad !

Wanted to express my sincere prayers and condolences to the Roman family in the passing of your father. I know that is a great loss but hope you all find comfort in the days ahead reflecting back on the many memories. In my prayers.

Very sorry to hear of your loss.  I did not know him but I can tell from some of these entries that he had an effect on many people....that is the sign of a great teacher.  My God Bless your family during this difficult time

I all my years in education (37) I never met a man like Louis A. Roman. He was honest, smart, helpful, supportive, and a real good guy. His leaving Springfield signaled the beginning of the end an the school district has never had anyone like him since. I knew Phyllis, Laura (twirler), and Chris and was in their home on St. Clair many times. Though he never got me to go camping, we did the Inquirer cryptogram every morning. - Howard Chud

Dear Chris, Laura and Brenda, your Dad was a kind, fair man that I've always admired, even the first time I was sent to his Hillcrest Principals Office and many thousand more visits to his office at Enfield. I believe that he transferred to Enfield, just so he could watch me grow up (not).  Oh, so you don't believe that I was sent to Mr. Roman's office a multitude of times?  Six years after graduating, I was working at Wissahickon Senior High (Narc Officer) and met Chris in the hallway.  I thought to myself "I know that teacher, but from where?"  Later, I stopped Chris and told him of my mental block of where I knew him.  Finally Chris gave me his last name "ROMAN".  Eureka!  "Now I know where I've seen you, Chris.  I have seen your framed photo on your Dad's desk, hundreds of times!"  Be it know, Louis A. Roman DID make a difference in my live, as he did countless other 'rebels' like myself.  I have thought of him, many more times than the years (49) that have past.  Your Dad lives within many!  Sincerely, Jack Hogan, Palm City, FL, Class of 1968, Springfield.

Its with great sorry that we learned of Lou's passing. He was a true gentleman and I enjoyed having known him and his family. May God comfort and support you in the coming days and years. Know through Jesus's love for you that one day you will be united with Lou again in Heaven.
