Verna was born in Gilliam, WV on March 27, 1935. She later moved to Florida, started a family and began raising her children. The family moved to Deer Park, TX when the children were still in school. Later, Verna fell in love with the Texas hill country while visiting her mother. She bought property and made the move to Spicewood, TX in 1993 after she retired. Verna passed at her home surrounded by loving family. She was a beloved mother, aunt and “Grankie” to all. Verna was always dedicated to everything she did, but most of all to her family. She was proudly known as Grankie, whether you were her grandchild or not. She always had a beautiful sense of adventure- loving to travel, dipping her feet in the ocean, testing fudge from different places, or finding a casino to pull a slot machine handle. Her favorite past time was family togetherness, always ready to share a meal or play a game of cards to enjoy each other’s company, leaving us with many great memories.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Opal Nichols and Jess Huff, brothers Zane Huff, Jim Huff and Ed Huff, and daughter Barbara Lyle. She is survived by brother Denver Huff, son David Hicks, daughters Sherry Puent, Kathryn Martin and Donna Miller, 9 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
