

Epifanio Sualog Casuncad, 85, of Lancaster, California, died September 16, 2017, at his Lancaster home, surrounded by his family, under hospice care. A viewing is scheduled at Joshua Memorial for Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 4-8 pm and a funeral service is scheduled at Fr. Sierra parish for Saturday, September 23rd at 12:30 pm. Epifanio was born September 21, 1932, in Buruanga Aklan, Philippines, to Sofia and Castor Casuncad. He attended Buruanga Vocational High School, in his beloved hometown and graduated with honours. He continued his education at Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila, Philippines, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Geodetic Engineering. He worked as a land surveyor for the Philippine Bank for many years before he migrated to America. He worked many odd jobs until he was hired as a land surveyor for U.S. Borax in Boron California, where he worked until he retired. He not only enjoyed watching sports, but he also coached little league games when he was younger. He self-taught himself the rules of the game. He was also a very competitive opponent in several strategy games such as chess, scrabble, sudoku, and card games. He played to win!
He had a passion for farming. He grew fruit trees and maintained a vegetable garden, sharing his harvest with friends and family. He insisted on watering them with his own loving hands. For many years, he raised barn animals in his two and a half acre backyard. He raised pigs, goats, and chickens for sale and personal consumption. Throughout his farming ventures, he always had the company of a loyal German Shepherd. He is survived by his sisters, Cerina and Erlinda and their families; wife Susan and two sons, Dave and Michael and his family; Daughters Elvie and Desiree and their families; son Evan and his family; grandchildren Nathaniel, Nowell, King, Jeremy, Johnjo, Inna, Altheo, Zoe, Van Michael, Kyle, Akanei, Kaiya, and Calissa; and his German Shepherds Chickee and Boomer. He was preceded in death by his mother Sofia, father Castor, sisters Adelaida and Eden, and son Epifanio Jr.
