So sorry to hear about Elene. She was a year ahead of me in school but was a good friend kind of in the neighborhood and eventually we had a “club” of friends. A few years ago when she and Bob came to Seymour for the Pumpkin Fest she invited us to her homestead and it was great to see members of our former club. Whenever I think of Aunt Elene, I think of her eagerness to laugh, her positive energy.  Even over the past few months, when things were hard, she just wanted to hear funny stories about my rambunctious kids and our adventures.  She never complained, and was so incredibly brave.  She focused her energy outward, and really had a zest for life and love of people that was infectious.  I miss you, Aunt Elene, and love you so much.  You will be missed, and remembered always.  

Elene was an amazing person. There are so many things to say about her. One way I've described her is as the keeper of memories. She enjoyed all the family stories - the old ones going back to our grandparents and the new ones about the youngest members. She delighted in sharing those stories with others.
One trait among her many qualities that stands out: her ability to love. Like many of us she would rather give cheerful attention to others than to receive it. However in the last months of her life she graciously received the tender care of those around her, especially her beloved family. 
Bob, your enduring love is an inspiration. Mark and Dale, you have been devoted sons. Your mother had enormous joy in her life because of you. Eileen and Lonnie, thank you for your many kindnesses to Elene. And Lee, you'll never know how much I appreciate your unfailingly tender devotion to my sister.

Dear Bob and Family. My sincere sympathy for the loss of your lovely wife.  It was an honor for me to have her for a friend.  The year we worked together when she wrote the beautiful story of my parents I will treasure forever. In the book The Shoemaker she brought out the beautiful story of my parents .  I read it over snd over and it still brings me to tears.   Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers.🙏

Elene always made me feel welcome, as her mother, Marie, and father, Bernie, had always done. The picture of her on the porch of the house on Meadow St., touches so many memories of  sitting on that same porch laughing, sharing stories and being so content. I am grateful to have shared those times with her and Bob and that my friendship with Lenore made them possible.


I am forever grateful to Elene for the warm and generous hospitality she showed us whenever we visited Florida.  We always had fun laughing and giggling together over mutual work stories.  I will treasure my last visit sitting around their pool and visiting with the family!  Her faith, her family and her friends are her legacy!

Elene was more to me than a caring friend. She was my encourager, my teacher; she made me feel worthy of the work we shared. She exuded happiness and good will. My memory of her will always make me smile❤️.

In my widower-widow marriage with her dear sister Lenore, I gained Elene as a loving encouraging sister. Her thoughtfulness toward me has been a regular joy. To many she gave witness to peace in her smile and kindness. Bob, you lost a great spouse and partner.  May her spirit,  now with  God  Whom she loved and Who loved her,  continue close to you. 

We are so sorry for the loss of Elene Tong.  Our thoughts & prayers go out to her whole family, especially Bob, Mark & Dale.  She was a beloved neighbor & friend of ours.

I first met Bob and Elene when we bought our home on Antilles Drive.  It was  an old homestead that we all fell in love with.  Overgrown with weeds and lack of upkeep, we all fell in love with it for it's charm and uniqueness. I think the Tongs would have bought it if we didn't.  37 years later it burned down, but before the fire, my family had a lifetime of wonderful memories on this property. Throughout the years, we have kept in contact with Bob and Elene and enjoyed their friendship on a personal and professional basis. Elene's wit, fun loving demeanor and spunk will always be remembered. Her perpetual smile and curiosity was always present. I will remember her vivacious spirit and uncanny personality. She will be missed in this realm, but her memory will be with us for years to come.

What a beautful, natural photo of Elene.  One of my earliest memories of Elene was going to the park near the Smith  house  on Meadow to attend an event where she was a high school majorette.  I was very impressed at her ability and maybe a little envious being 8 or 9 at the time. I remember Bob and Elenes wedding reception at Uncle Bernie and Aunt Maries.  Family visits were unofficial and uninvited,  drop in events.  Elene always made you welcome no matter her schedule.  I will always remember her laugh.  Hope your memories give you peace.

I remember Elene as a caring, energetic, ever interesting individual who I was lucky to have as a cousin. She made my siblings & I so welcome in her Seymour home a few years ago & we all caught up as if we were never apart.

    I had the privilege of belonging to a writers group with Elene.  I quickly grew to love her and look forward to her stories weekly.  She was a truly a caring person with an infectious smile as well as a wicked sense of humor.
  To me the world is a lesser place without Elene.  It was a joy to call her friend.
    

Elene was a wonderful sister in law and friend to everyone she knew,  you always felt welcome in her home.  I will miss our family get-togethers and all the memories we shared.  

Uncle Bob, I’m very, very sorry to hear of Elene’s passing. She was always so sweet and thoughtful. I’ve kept the books she wrote and I really enjoyed them! 
You have so many years of memories and I hope they sustain you through difficult times.
