

Mary Ruth Whitehorn of Las Vegas, NV, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017 at the age of 82. Mary was born in Trezevant, TN to Curtis E and Katherine Mary Tate on September 1, 1934. She met her husband, Jack, in Newburn, TN. They married June 30, 1957 and in 1958, moved to Manchester, GA where she was a school teacher at Manchester High School. They later moved with their daughter, Keely to Las Vegas, NV in 1978. Mary graduated Salutatorian from Trezevant High School and then went on to graduate with a Major in Mathematics and a Minor in Business from Bethel College in McKenzie, TN. She taught Math at various schools in Georgia and retired from teaching from Manchester High School. After moving to Las Vegas, Mary continued to teach then worked for Nevada Energy as an Administrative Assistant until retiring in 2000. Mary is preceded in death by her husband Jack Whitehorn, brothers Curtis E Tate, Jr, Sherman Tate and nephew Milton Tate. She is survived by her daughter Keely and her husband David along with several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at Spring Valley Baptist Church on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at twelve o’clock in the afternoon with reception to follow.
