He was born January 2, 1944 in Lewiston, Maine, the son of the late George H. Cleaveland, Sr. and Evelyn (Johnson) Mixer.
George married the love of his life, Pamela (Pam) (Bilodeau) Cleaveland on December 18, 1968. They are the proud parents of Andrew and Christopher.
He proudly served his country in the U.S Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. George left the service and went on to work at BIW where he spent nearly 42 years honing his skills as an electrician.
George was a man of deep faith and was an active member of the South Monmouth Baptist church where he served as a trustee and usher. He looked forward to spending time with his church family and helping to spread the word of God by attending many a county fair. He was known to help out with the children’s face painting, a skill he never quite mastered!
George was an avid sports fan and particularly loved to follow the Red Sox. He was a master at the crossword puzzle and jumble in the daily paper. Mostly he adored his family and was happiest when spending time with them.
George is survived by his loving son and best friend, Christopher J. Cleaveland and his wife, Sarah Cleaveland; grandchildren Logan C. Cleaveland, Emily P. Cleaveland, and Elizabeth (Libby) Dunham; brother Sherwood (Woody) Cleaveland and wife Colleen. He was predeceased by his wife Pamela Cleaveland in February 2009, son, Andrew M. Cleaveland in October 1985; sister Mary E. (Cleaveland) Labonte.
A graveside service will held at Gracelawn Memorial Park Thursday, September 2, at 11am. It will be
a small gathering of family and friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
