Jane Malene Bromfield

Jane Malene Bromfield, 86 years old, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2023 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Born to Virgil and Ruth Hoover in 1936, Jane was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, who was known for her kind and gentle spirit and dedication to her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed knitting, and loved playing with her grandchildren. She was a great listener and provided advice and support to her family and friends. She lived a full life and leaves many fond memories and great friends behind.

Jane was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska and, other than for a few years living in other cities while her former late husband did his medical residencies, spent her entire life in Lincoln, where she raised her three kids and maintained strong, long-term friendships. After graduating from nursing school in 1958 as an R.N., Jane worked with newborn babies at Lincoln General Hospital. After the birth of her kids, Jane left nursing for a more demanding job…a stay-at-home mother. Once the kids grew older and were in middle school, Jane went to work at Bryan Hospital in Lincoln. After years at Bryan, Jane started working at the Donald O. Clifton Childhood Development Center as a child care provider, where she worked for 20 years, provided care for 496 babies, made 7,737,600 bottles and changed 10,316,800 diapers (all according to the organization). Upon retirement, Jane spent her time being with family, caring for her mother and father until their deaths, traveling, playing bridge and having coffee with her childhood and nursing school friends and becoming a self-proclaimed semi-professional Sudoku player. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter Debbie (Rick) Hart, daughter Katherine (Steve) Emke, son William (Meg) Bromfield, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother James (Bobbie) Hoover, brother John (Kathy) Hoover, nieces, nephews and a host of longtime friends.
