Lewis was born November 21, 1925, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Walter and Cordelia Sevier Williams. He relocated as a child to Sargent, Nebraska. Dad was one of 13 graduates in the Sargent High School class of 1943 and later attended the University of Nebraska.
Lewis married Mildred Patricia Fish in Broken Bow, Nebraska, after first meeting at a dance. They celebrated 73 years of marriage on August 19, 2020. He is the father of 7, grandfather of 12, great grandfather of 9, and loved by all of them.
Lewis worked for the State of Nebraska Department of Roads for 39 years and 3 months. He enjoyed many Husker games and world travels with Mildred, and loved watching sports and old westerns on tv.
Dad was a dignified veteran, having served in the 8th Air Force 401 BG 1943-46. He served as an aerial gunner on a B-17. Sgt. Hoobler received the Air Medal with oak leaf cluster, four Battle Stars, the WWll Victory Medal and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He was a member and dedicated volunteer of VFW Post 3606 since 1964 and was a past Post Commander. He was a WWll Honor Flight participant. He also proudly served in the honor guard at many fellow veterans’ military funerals.
Lewis and Mildred were founding members of South Gate United Methodist Church in 1964 and served in various capacities over the years.
Lewis is sadly predeceased by 2 sons, Bruce and Mark, and his granddaughter, Katie.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred; sons Roy D., Corpus Christi, TX, Barry (Joanne), Northfield, IL, Jay (Becky), Tucson, AZ, Brian, daughter Penny (Monte) Pueppke, and daughter-in-law Anne, all of Lincoln NE. Grandchildren; Dylan (Jackie), Jackson (Amanda), Kevin (Jordan), Allison, Amanda (Trevor), Max, Alex (Carolyn), Cody (Amanda), Cassie (Brock),Zach, Colin, and great grandchildren; Jack, Spencer, Natalie, Nora, Vincent, Mazzy, Gunnar, Beau, Madison, and 2 more to be born soon.
