Rodney Schulling, a loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on July 3, 2024 at the age of 87. Born on August 23, 1936 in Lincoln, NE. Rodney grew up with a passion for travel and reading about the Civil War and WWII. He went on to become Chief of Planning Services in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough in Palmer, Alaska.
Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sharon; children, David, Katie, Anna and Tom; grandchildren, Taylor, Hanna, Isabella, Kylie, Tyler, Josiah, Porsche, Jasmine and Lottie; sister, Nikki (John) DeFrain of Lincoln; John (Sheryl) Schulling of Battle Ground, WA.; many cousins and friends.
Rodney was preceded in death by his children Richard and Ginger. He will be remembered for his kind heart, quick wit and love of the U.S. Navy and Nebraska football.
Rod was trained as a Lutheran lay leader in Alaska and volunteered in church-related activities including Ysleta Lutheran Mission in El Paso, Texas and VBS programs in Cordova and Palmer, Alaska, Marion, Indiana, and in Providenya, Russia (with a missionary group).
Rodney and his wife traveled extensively after his retirement visiting countries in South America, the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Asia, the UK, Europe, Eastern Europe and Africa.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Christ Lincoln Church.
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 South 14th Street, Lincoln, NE. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 11:00 am, at Christ Lincoln Church, 4325 Sumner Street, Lincoln, NE. lincolnfh.com
