Dad,Uncle Ed,Cousin Jeff,and I went fishing at Lake Sidney Lanier in Georgia in Dad's Boston Whaler bass boat.We all caught some nice fish but Jeffrey hooked up with the two biggest bass of the day.However he lost both of them as they jumped out of the water and spit out the hook before we could net them.On the way back to the boat ramp while trolling Uncle Ed caught a rainbow trout and Dad caught a channel catfish.When we got back to Uncle Ed's house I cleaned the fish we kept except for one nice smallmouth bass that Dad had caught.It was still full of life so Jeff and I snuck him down to the creek behind his house and set him free with no one the wiser.None of us went hungry that night.It was spring break 1973.

My sincerest condolences  to the Gambill family.  I am a second cousin 1x removed;  Doug's grandfather was my great grandfather's older brother. It warms my heart to read the beautiful memories of a good man.  Nancy (Gambill) Wakeman  Oregon

Douglas  'Doug' Gambill  along  with  Sam,  Jerry and myself  made up a foursome  of brothers  that I  was blessed and  proud to be  a part of.  He loved  our family and  had a very, very special  love for his  Moma. He authored  six  testimonial poems about her and it was from the thoughts and words therein that established for me one of most endearing of many wonderful memories of Doug.  Indulge  me a few  excerpts from his "My Moma and My Popa" Quote "My Moma and My Popa she was always both to me you see, I lost my Popa when I was only three"...."She gave us clothing, food and home and Love -it,was galore. Until some people told me, I didn't  know that I was poor. You can't be poor when you have a Mom and family like I do"...."So thank you family, relatives and friends for letting me have my say. I'll always love my Moma, even after my dying day".                                                      
Rest In Peace my dear brother and friend and thank you for the legacy of your writings-a real family treasure.

Dad let me use his cool blue thunderbird to go on a date on a Friday night,on the way home thru Iroquois park the engine froze up.He had cousin Billy Ray put a rebuilt engine in it.Two weeks later he let me use it again to visit some friends in the east end.On the way home thru a heavy fog I totaled his T-bird and went thru the windshield and was knocked unconscious,he loved that car.When I woke up the next day in the hospital there he was by my side.I tried to tell him how sorry I was for wrecking his car but he just put his hand over mine and said son if that's the worst thing that ever happens to us we will be allright.

Known him my whole life...always wished he were my father. He was a devoted father and brother!! Always there for his whole family! My heart goes out to my brothers in this difficult time. My sincere condolences to the Gambill family!! 

One of my favorites memories of thousands was in Key West, Florida.We were swimming from the beach at the Southernmost Point Resort to the end of the fishing pier and as we neared the steps up to the pier people started yelling and screaming at us to get out of the water.After you calmly walked up the stairs you turned and looked down at a 6 foot hammerhead shark and a 5 foot barracuda in the water below us,looked at me and said son I believe I will walk back.Fear no evil and laugh at danger,my Dad.

Rest in Peace Uncle Doug, many good memories! 
One of the best ones was when you and Thad were down here in Ft Myers fishing from the Sanibel pier.
A big ole' Snook took your bait and took off like a freight train, eventually breaking you off. But not before you felt how hard that fish could fight! You talked about that the rest of the night! And, when we came to visit this past November, it was one of the first things about which we reminisced.  
I know you will be catching your limit every day in Heaven!
