She graduated from Lamesa High School in 1947. La Wana married Ernest Moore on September 2, 1950 in Lamesa, Texas. Later attended Hardin-Simmons University of Abilene, Texas, graduated in 1951; and received her Master’s in Education degree from Texas Tech in 1965. She taught school in LISD from 1960-1990. She enjoyed working with the youth at First Baptist Church; especially summer camps and teaching Bible studies.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Kenneth Banta, L.L. Banta, and Jennine McKee; daughters, Vivian Ann Moore and Cherie Moore Russell.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Donna Banta Lane, Mike Banta, Dennis Banta, Don McKee, Ron McKee, and Carolyn McKee and their families.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2018 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Funeral Service celebrating her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2018 at First Baptist Church in the Ford Chapel with Rev. Jay Abernathy and Rev. D.L. Lowrie officiating.
Entombment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: First Baptist Church, Youth Ministry or Gideon’s International.
