

Services for Herman H. Parrish, Jr., 89, of Lufkin, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2016 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Pat Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Parrish was born July 30, 1927 in Lufkin, Texas, the son of the late Susan (Bynum) and Herman H. Parrish, Sr. He passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2016 in a local nursing facility.
Mr. Parrish was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. He was a lifetime resident of Lufkin and attended school in Lufkin. He married Lucille Lewing in 1943. He went to work at Lufkin Industries in 1943 and retired with 43 years of service. He married Maxine Boles in 1992. He loved his family and his dogs and enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling. He could fix anything. He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Parrish was a member of Union Road Church of Christ and was a good Christian example.
Survivors include his daughter, Betty Murphy of Spurger; sons and daughters-in-law, Don and Katie Parrish and Jason and Charlotte Parrish, all of Lufkin; stepsons, Trent Havard and Trace Havard and wife Michelle, both of Longview; grandchildren, Duane Murphy, Susan Levesque, Colin Parrish, Brandon Parrish, and Alana Cummings; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill Lewing and wife Barbara of Lufkin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Parrish was preceded in death by his first wife, Lucille Parrish in 1990; second wife, Maxine Parrish in 2012; and sisters, Mary Tervort and Dorothy Mitchell.
Pallbearers will be Brandon Parrish, Clay Cummings, Alfred Torres, Colin Parrish, Duane Murphy, and David Gordon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Parrish’s memory may be made to Hospice in the Pines, 1504 W. Frank Avenue, Lufkin, TX 75904
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
