

Services for Mildred L. Rice, 98, of Lufkin, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014 in the Gipson Funeral Home Chapel, with Wayne Rice and Keith Woolf officiating. Interment will follow in the Whitehouse Cemetery.
Mrs. Rice was born September 12, 1916 in Ratcliff, Texas, the daughter of the late Ellen (Kellow) and Ernest Smith. She passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014 in a local nursing facility.
She enjoyed sewing, quilting and shopping. Before her mobility limited her, she enjoyed traveling, with Branson, Missouri being her favorite destination where she enjoyed the gospel and country music shows. She was a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Kennard, Texas.
Survivors include her husband, Archie D. Rice of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Harry Lalumandier of Lake Jackson; son and
daughter-in-law, Tommy and Georgia Rice of Brazoria; grandchildren, Marcus and Amy Lalumandier of Houston, Ryan Lalumandier of Lake Jackson, Cynthia Rice of Brazoria, Bradley and Kara Rice of Angelton, and Brandon and Julie Rice of Baytown; 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Beatrice Smith of Port Arthur; brothers and sisters-in-law, Margie Rice, D G (Yank) and Lydia Rice, Evelyn Rice, Gilbert and Woodie Rice, Charles Rice, Jim Rice, Joe Rice, Bob and Gayle Rice, Betty Rice, and Marie McIntosh; nieces and nephews, Billie Allen, Maxine Broussard, Jenny Breaux, J.T. Carlile, Les Higgins, Dema Hasell, Sheila Lester; special niece and caretaker, Flecia Ware; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her son, Billy Ray Rice; brothers, Charlie Smith, Alvis Smith, Tom Ray Smith, Agee Smith, Graydon Smith, and one sister, Fairy Smith.
Pallbearers will be Mike Rice, Larry Rice, Steve Rice, Randy Rice, Gary Rice, Brandon Rice, Bradley Rice, and Marcus Lalumandier.
Honorary pallbearers will be Allen Ware, Ryan Lalumandier, Ace Wise, J. T. Carlisle, and Les Higgins.
Mrs. Rice’s family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of Hospice in the Pines and Trinity Mission for the loving care shown to her during her final illness.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Gipson Funeral Home.
