Durward “Red” Mays Boyd, 93, passed away surrounded by his loved ones on Monday, January 29, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Northway Church with the Rev. Kevin Mills and Rev. Phil Anderson officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Northway Church (Youth Building Fund), 5915 Zebulon Road, 31210.
Red was born in Statham, Georgia to the late Carl M. Boyd and Ina Hammond Boyd. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Alice Hicks Boyd. Red attended Winder Elementary School, Lanier High School and Mercer University. He was co-owner of the Trading Post Moving and Storage, a company founded by his father-in-law in 1930.
Red was a member of Northway Church and was a United States Army veteran having received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He loved his work at the Trading Post, Little League baseball, and visiting and witnessing to everyone he met.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Durward M. “Dubs” Boyd, Jr. (Mary Jo) of Macon; Geri Bannon of Macon, Ed L. Boyd (Georgia) of Forsyth, Lally (Joey) Weaver of Macon; brother, David A. Boyd (Linda) of Eastman, Ga; grandchildren, Mary Katherine Kilgore (Rod), D. Mays Boyd III (Becky), Patti Boyd, April Boyd (Dustin Howard), Ethan Boyd (Katelyn), Joshua B. Weaver, J. Daniel Weaver, and Cardin E. Weaver; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Angie B. Burch (Ed), Donna B. Purvis (Stacey), Ricky Hicks (Angela), Beth Sanders (Van), Brannon Hicks (Nancy), and Henry Hicks (Kelly).
The family would like to extend their gratitude to our Caring Companions caregivers, Tracie Coulter, April Chatman, Quin Bonner, Candy Bryce, Anyiel Harvell, Calandra Lamb, and Cierra Underwood and Pine Pointe Hospice for their loving care of our father.
