D.F. Courson Jr. “Frank,” passed away on July 2, 2019, in Salisbury, NC. at the age of 72.

Frank served his country in the United States Navy, and was a Vietnam War Veteran. Upon his honorable discharge, he began serving his community as a Police Officer for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department. After his retirement from the PD, Frank continued his life of service by touching the hearts and minds of the community’s youth through coaching year around in the Mint Hill Athletic Association recreational leagues before continuing on as a middle school, and high school coach at Northside Christian Academy of Charlotte. The edge on his passion for team sports never dulled especially in his love of all things baseball.

Frank is survived by his Ex-wife Carol, Daughter Lesley Harrelson, Son Jeremy, Sisters Penny Brisson, and Kitty Molina, Granddaughters Kaley, Gwyneth, and Charlotte.

A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2019 from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at McEwen Funeral Service-Mint Hill Chapel.

I’m sorry to hear of Frank’s death. Frank and I lived in the North End of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and played baseball together. My wife was looking through pictures today and came across a baseball team picture. Frank, his father Del Coursen (a coach), my brother-in-law, Roger Algire ( died in Vietnam) and myself are in the picture. I have thought of Frank many times in the past years. So I googled his name this evening. The team was Rudins (a department store in Mount Vernon) in the early 60’s. Please except my deepest condolences. If you would like me to email you a copy of the picture, please contact me.

SO sorry, just saw this,, Frank was a very good man, honest, sincere, loved his family, always helped us at MHAA when asked, he helped us put up the first fences on the land on Brief Road when the prison system donated the materials to us,, and was certainly not an easy job, his heart was clearly in helping kids and help give them better opportunities than perhaps we even had,, certainly nicer,, love you brother, RIP,,,prayers to the family..

I was a riding partner of Franks many years ago. Was out of town during the gathering on Saturday. My wife showed me the obit today. I hated to hear of his passing. I have many fond memories of our days together. It's been quite a few years since I have seen Frank but we talked baseball at that time and he was proud of his son's baseball skills a chip off the old block. My prayers are with the family.

Saying goodbye to my Big Brother is not easy. As I have thought about our lives together these last few days I have a deeper feeling for all things my big brother did for me.

He taught me how to ride a bike. How to swim, how to play ball. He also always let me tag along with he and his buds.

Most importantly he always told me I could do anything. My big brother helped make me the strong and capable person that I am today.

Go see mom and dad now. I know mom has her arms wide open. I love you.
