Harvey was one of Ojai's characters who could always be seen out hiking with true purpose like John Muir: headed for the hills! Good Lord that man could hike--he'd log miles upon miles seemingly every day all through the week, the months, and into the years. Besides that he was an enthusiastic protector of the town; for it to maintain the charm it had when he first discovered it. Always in a brimmed hat, white shirt and short pants. As far as I know Harvey is still walking out there, surely among us.

How does one put in words all the wonderful experiences, adventures, memories, and living that best friends bring?

Harvey and I were best friends for 50 years......through 3 marriages for me. (LOL). That's alot of living!!

Meeting up in grade school, we were fast friends and realized over time how many things we shared in common. We spent hours listening to our favorite music...Beatles, Yes, Genesis, Tull, ...our first concert at the Hollywood Bowl Emerson Lake and Palmer...We both loved backpacking and hiking whenever we could get away Sierras, Tahoe, Mammoth, local hiking Ojai, Fillmore to our friends ranch.
We never lost touch even though I had moved around a bit Harv always visited my new domain.

I am in shock and disbelief that my dearest friend is no longer with us.
I can't pick up the phone to let him know what new artist I herd or what new place I've been.

I know he is at peace now and that his love will live on in my heart.
"Via Con Dios" my sweet friend.

I met Harvey through his sister Pam about 40 plus years ago while living in the San Fernando Valley. Harvey was a unique individual. We had taken many hikes together and had shared many good times. He was always positive in his outlook on life and the only one of my friends who would hike or bike to the top of Sulphur Mountain to share a cold beer. My girl Tina and I will miss his visits but his spirit will always be present. We love you Harvey, take care. Jeff Bradford and Tine Anderson
