

Flossie Dalrymple Crayton, 95, died March 19, 2014 after suffering a stroke. She was born May 3, 1918 in Lee County, NC to Archie and Sarah Dalrymple. She grew up on the family farm with six brothers and one sister. After graduating from Jonesboro High School, Flossie attended business school at UNC-Greensboro. She married Paul W. Crayton in 1943. They moved to New Bern in 1948 where they raised three children.
Flossie was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, was Chairman of her circle and served on the altar guild. She was an avid golfer and winner of many tournaments at New Bern Golf & Country Club. She was very proud of her hole-in-one at Bogue Banks Country Club. She was also a member of the New Bern Woman’s Club, Dunes Club and Rams Club.
Flossie loved to travel and attended three Boy Scout World Jamborees. She especially enjoyed her time at her homes in Atlantic Beach and Montego Bay, Jamaica.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by two sons; Skip Crayton and wife Carol, Frank Crayton and wife Dana, one daughter Debby Crayton; four grandchildren, Walt Crayton, Anna Crayton, Samuel Dail and wife Jane, Jenna Huff and Jenna’s father, Rick Huff, and one great grandson, Rad Purifoy. She is also survived by her brother Rupert Dalrymple and wife Rachel, her sister, Myrtle Ray Glass, her best friend Pat Jones, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will take place at Centenary United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 23 at 3:00 pm. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall at 2:00 pm. Entombment will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church.
