Joseph S. Migatz, 85, of Old Lyme, CT. beloved husband of Jean Lois (Otfinowski) Migatz, passed away at home Sunday March 14, surrounded by his wife, son and daughter. Born in New Britain CT. son of the late Joseph Stanley Migatz Sr. and Anna Migatz (Puzewski), Joe graduated from New Britain High School in 1953 and played trumpet in the High School band. Joseph was a U.S Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict as INF. OPR. Intel Spec, played trumpet in the 86th INF REGT Army Band, and also served in the Army Reserves until 1963. Joe enjoyed two different careers. As an Accountant for Gould Allied Control and Telemecanique of Plantsville, CT. when he resided in Southington, CT. and in The U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 2016. He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart Church in New Britain and currently at St. Agnes Church in Niantic, CT. He was a 55 year member of the Point O’ Woods Beach community in Old Lyme. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Joe married Jean in 1958 and enjoyed 62 loving, wonderful years together. Joe loved music, the outdoors, gardening, UCONN Basketball, wrestling, the History Channel and Current Events. He adored working on his boat with his son and taking long boating adventures with his wife and children to explore the Sound and CT. River. Besides his parents, Joe was predeceased by his beloved Daughter Laura Jean Migatz Sullivan, foster grandson Emilio Collado and Uncle Lucian Puzewski. He is survived by his beloved wife Jean and cherished children: Michael Joseph Migatz of Old Lyme, Carol Ann Migatz and fiancé David Reese Kean of Old Lyme and Christchurch New Zealand; his beloved grandson Joseph James Sullivan of Wethersfield, CT. and several nieces and nephews. Joe was a family man of faith who was hardworking, dedicated and loyal. Joe was also brave, courageous and inspirational in his 22 month battle with Pancreatic Cancer. The family would like to thank Dr. Salem, Dr. Lacy, the Yale Smilow team and Masonicare Hospice for his care. The kindness and love of all who knew him so appreciated. A Mass of Christian Burial for Joseph will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 9:30 AM from the New Britain Memorial Donald D. Sagarino Funeral Home, 444 Farmington Ave. New Britain, CT 06053 and at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 158 Broad St. New Britain, CT 06053. Burial with military honors will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Calling hours for Joseph will be held on Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
