Olive Irene Bergman McDonald was born on September 9, 1923 to Olive Sherwood Bergman and Frank O Bergman in Norwich, CT. She returned home to God on September 25, 2018 to be with her loving parents, her husband, John McDonald, her siblings Barbara (Bergman) Henderson, Lawrence Bergman, and Franklyn Bergman who all pre-deceased her. Ollie spent most of her life on Bergman Drive surrounded by her family. She was a kindergarten teacher at Lisbon School where she retired from but she is best remembered as an active participant at the United Congregation Church of Norwich, CT. Where she was a long time Sunday school teacher and where she played the organ. She was the mother to two daughters, Sheryl (Paterno) Ivey and Kathy (Leitkowski) Biederka and the beloved grandmother to her grandchildren and great grand children. She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, her love of always matching accessories: purses, neck scarfs, earrings, and many, many shoes (all for comfort mind you), and for her love of life. She will be missed by many and remembered fondly by many more. A private funeral and graveside burial will take place on October 2. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Beacon Hospice. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, New London is handling the arrangements.
