James Edward Farrell Jr.

I bid adieu to my love today as he spread his wings and rose to join the majestic eagles soaring into the next dimension on his next adventure. Jim was born in Brighton, Massachusetts to James E. and Alice C. (Sweeney) Farrell, the eldest of four sons. At an early age, the family moved to Waltham, Massachusetts and he forever called Waltham his home. Following high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Coast Guard and served with honor in the Search and Rescue Team watching over the northeast coast. Soon thereafter, Jim married Joanne E. Wright and from that union three girls were born, Linda, Jane and Eileen. After suffering the tremendous loss of his family, save Eileen, in an auto accident, Jim married Elinor T. Rollins. From this marriage, two children were born, Kevin and Brenda. Jim began his career with the Raytheon Corporation in Massachusetts in 1953 and served as Purchasing Manager in Massachusetts, California and Louisiana. Upon retirement, Jim and Elinor relocated to Fort Myers to make their home in the Cinnamon Cove Community. Jim was not one to retire and quickly adapted to volunteering throughout Lee County with Health Park Cardiac Surgery, Ding Darling Nature Center, Lovers Key Park. He had an insatiable curiosity and zest for life, becoming an amateur paleontologist, avid bird enthusiast, bicycling and kayaking all over Lee County and swimming every day. In 2003, Jim found love again and married Judith O’Donnell and they embarked on a whirlwind life travelling and living part time in the Georgia Mountains, while he introduced Judy to his world of hiking, birding, and the wonders of nature. Left to cherish his memory and celebrate his life are his wife, Judy, and children: Eileen Farrell of Ft. Myers, FL, Kevin and Anita Farrell of Grayson, GA, Brenda and Chip Soboleski of Ware, MA and Michael and Kelly O’Donnell of Edgewood, NM. Also with very fond memories are grandchildren: Brendan and Carole Ann Descelles of Pelham, NH, Michael and Mia Shea of Norwood, MA, Amanda Shea and Adam Cornelius of Ware, MA, Josh and Lauren Farrell of Woodstock, GA, Ian Rhodes and Emmy Farrell of Gainesville, GA, Evan Farrell of Atlanta, GA, Kelly E. Farrell of Grayson, GA, Jason M. O’Donnell of Catoosa, OK, Michael J. and Andrea O’Donnell of Moriarity, NM, and Sean K. O’Donnell of Edgewood, NM. and memories to be instilled with great grandchildren: Deven Decelles, Amanda Michaud, Matthew Ashmore, John Ashmore, Owen Shea Cornelius, Missy Cornelius and Oliver O’Donnell. Jim was predeceased by his parents and brothers: Donald, Richard, and Paul. Also by his wives Joanne and Elinor and children, Jane and Linda. Our family would like to extend our very heartfelt gratitude to all the Caregivers who tended to our Jim’s welfare at the Arden Courts Memory Care Center.
