Juanita Maxine Selvidge, 99, passed from this world peacefully surrounded by her immediate family on Tuesday, May 10, 2022. She was born March 8, 1923, at home on a farm in Luther, OK, the first of seven children of Don and Ruby White.
Juanita met her life-long love, Homer Selvidge, in high school and they married when she was 16 and he was 19. It was a loving, enduring and adventure-filled marriage that lasted 53 years until his passing in 1992. Juanita and Homer loved to travel, making seven trips to Hawaii, and enjoyed their Saturday night dates eating Italian food and watching Lawrence Welk, a weekly tradition she continued until her passing.
After his death, Juanita went to work at her daughter’s shop, Twice Chic/All About Me, where she became a certified mastectomy fitter. She was a voracious reader but enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything else. Juanita was a remarkable lady putting everybody’s needs before her own and lived an independent life until shortly before she died.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Homer, her sister, Geraldine Kelly of Tulsa, and her brothers, Dwight White of Texas and Don White of Yukon. Juanita is survived by her immediate family, daughter, Saundra Dowdy Basey Herriage and her husband, J.C., of Oklahoma City and her only grandson, Jim Chapman Jr, of Kingston and his dog, SammyDog, and her sisters, Audrey Blackley of Oregan, Shirley Dyer of Claremore, and Loretta Rains of Guthrie, and a host of nieces, nephews , great nieces and great nephews and many friends and acquaintances.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at Memorial Park Cemetery at 13313 North Kelley in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice would please Juanita.
