Emerita, whom family and friends called her Melita or Mela, was born in Aibonito, Puerto Rico on August 16, 1952. She moved to The Bronx, New York with her parents and 7 siblings, finishing her senior year in high school and receiving her diploma. During her time in New York, she suffered many losses. She lost her mother, Maria Margarita Matos. Her father Francisco Gonzalez. Her brother Victor Gonzalez. Her sister Maria Esther Gonzalez and her brother Efrain Freddie Gonzalez. With great loss, she also found great love. While raising her 3 children, she found the love of her life in 1982 and remarried in 1994.
Family was very important to her throughout her entire life. Once her sisters moved to Florida, she knew she needed to move to Florida as well and her remaining 2 brothers also moved to Florida as they all needed to be together and they continued to raise their families while remaining a close family.
Not only did she raise her 3 children, she also helped raise her step son Marty Marrero, 2 of her nieces Margie and Jessica and 3 of her grand daughter's Tatiana, Maison, and Jordan. She worked very hard her whole life to support and provide for those she took care of. She was very generous to those she loved. Not only was she an amazing swimmer who loved the water but she was also an amazing Salsa dancer and music lover. She could and would dance to any beat. Her love for music was definitely contagious to everyone and anyone who would stop by her house.
She is survived by her beloved husband Martin Marrero Jr. Her Beloved children Indar Ramnauth, Omar Ramnauth, and her daughter Denise Pabon. Her beloved sisters Maria Norma Soto-mayor and Nitza Alicea - Gonzalez. Her beloved brothers Francisco Gonzalez and William Gonzalez. Her 9 beloved grandchildren Indar Ramnauth Jr, Tatiana Lutz, Jadelyn Ramnauth, Maison Ramnauth, Jordan Ramnauth, Jariah Ramnauth, Aliyah Pabon, Alyssa Pabon and Angelina Pabon. She also leaves behind numerous loving nieces, nephews and in laws.
Her passing is a major devastation to her family. While they rejoice in knowing she is in peace, her voice, her laugh and her contagious and beautiful smile will be painfully missed.
Visitation fro family and friends will be held Monday April 9th 4-8 PM at Deltona Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday April 10th 10 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow services in Deltona Memorial Gardens, Orange City, FL.
