Roberta J. Kassan, 78, passed away May 15, 2022, in Palm Coast, Florida. Funeral service will be held at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida at 1pm on 24 May 2022. Roberta (affectionately known as Rusty) was born in Brooklyn, New York on September 30, 1943, to John and Helen Mazziotta. She attended Island Trees High School, Levittown, Long Island, New York and the State University of New York, Farmingdale, Long Island, New York, working toward an Associate Degree as a Technical Secretary, Advertising. On November 17, 1963, she married Steven I. Kassan, who was just starting a 22-year career in the United States Air Force. During this time, she had three wonderful boys; Mark, Andrew, and David. She also found that she loved to travel to see other lands and was able to spend two years in the Philippine Islands and three years in Germany. Additionally, she went back to college taking courses at Valdosta State College in Georgia, the University of the Philippines at Clark AB, and finally obtaining her Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science at the Dominican College in Blauvelt, New York. She participated in various volunteer activities with the Air Force Officer Wives Clubs, the Red Cross, and the Boy Scouts of America.
When her husband retired from the Air Force in 1984 in Medford, New Jersey, she went to work full time as an Income Maintenance Worker/Technician with the Burlington County Board of Social Services. She spent the next 17 and a half years at this job in various capacities. In May 2005, she completed her 20 year retirement with the State of New Jersey in various positions. During this time, she finished raising her third son, and added to her family two 14-year-old twin boys, Jason and Jeffrey, when her sister unexpectedly passed away in 1995. On her 25th marriage anniversary, she and her husband took their first cruise to the Caribbean. She found that she really liked cruising and continued to cruise, completing over 50 cruises all over the world. She especially liked the casinos and all the wonderful places and people. When she was working full time, she also worked as a Tupperware Sales Representative, and Avon Sales Representative, an Independent Insurance Agent, an Independent Travel Agent, a Substitute Teacher, and an antique shop owner.
In 2005, after she retired, they moved to the Leeward Air Ranch in Ocala, Florida. While in Ocala, she continued her world travels and her ownership of up to three antique shops, in various antique malls, as a hobby. She also volunteered as an AARP Tax Aide. In 2018, she moved to Palm Coast, Florida, to be closer to her son, Andrew.
She is survived by her three sons, Mark, Andrew and David, and six grandchildren (Joshua, Breanne, Samantha, Jessica, Lucas, and Ashley).
