Florrie “Flo” Spratlin Hughes (September 6th, 1926 – November 16th, 2019). Flo Hughes was born in Hull, GA to parents Walter J. and Hattie Jane Spratlin, and was the seventh born and last living of nine children. She had lived in Bluff Park (Hoover) since 1966. Mrs. Hughes was a member of Shades Crest Baptist Church for over 50 years. She and her husband were avid golfers and charter members of Chase Lake Country Club. She was an active bridge player until leukemia began to affect her health in her 92nd year.
Flo was married to Ira Wilmer Hughes for 65 years until his death in 2010. Predeceased by her parents and husband, Mrs. Hughes was also predeceased by a son, Robert L. Hughes. She was a devoted mother who lived selflessly for her children. Survivors include: two sons; Sidney Hughes of Homewood, and Jerry Hughes (Ellen) of Hoover; Sherryl Hughes of Columbiana, and Karen McCarty (Lee) of Wilsonville, ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Visitation will be November 27th at 10 am followed by funeral service at 11 am at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and Cemetery in Pelham. The graveside burial service will immediately follow.
