USN (Ret)
1923 - 2013
Vincent T. Murray passed away at his home on August 31, 2013, at the age of 89.
He was born in Cresskill, NJ on December 24, 1923 but had been a long time resident of Pensacola and a member of St. John's Catholic Church since 1952. He is survived by his younger brother, Neal Murray; son, Robert and daughter-in-law Christine; and two grandsons, Brian and Matthew Murray.
In 1963, he retired from the Navy after 22 years of service and went on to his second career as a carrier for the United States Post Office. He retired from the Pensacola Post Office in 1978 after serving as primary carrier for NAS where he continued his association with Navy personnel, from admirals to seaman, and loved every minute of it. Upon retirement, the Navy Gosport and most of the base residents referred to him as the "Pied Piper of NAS".
After his wife Dorothy passed away he spent most of his time as an unofficial guide at the Naval Aviation Museum where he loved to share his vast knowledge of naval aircraft.
The family wants to express their special thanks to his second family at the Naval Aviation Museum and at Denny's on Mobile Hwy where he was fondly known as "Granddaddy".
Visitation will be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home on Sunday, September 8, 2013 from 6pm to 8pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. John's Catholic Church on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 12pm noon.
