Pete and are first cousins but we grew up like brothers. I can only remember doing everything together Heinz House, Forbs Fild, Sears. It is with a very heavy heart that I try to write this condolence without stopping to wipe the tears f=omg my eyes. Call him Pete, shorty, Big Pete, he would always give you that rye smil with a bit of a smile. Pete was truly my best friend, who I will miss like a brother.. Rest in peace, amen.

How to consolidate a lifetime of memories into a single post?
Dad is an amazing friend and father, who always put family first. We could count on him for any thing at any time. He's the standard that I try to live up to. The fun times and lessons learned are too numerous to count, and I'll especially miss the phone calls to talk about house projects, classic cars, or any random thing. I'm grateful that he got to know his grandchildren (and great-grandchildren!) and how involved he was in their lives growing up. Although he won't physically be with us at holidays or family gatherings, his memory and legacy will always be there.
Dad - you will be dearly missed!!

We just got back from the Viewing and I wanted to share some memories. I remember hosting Thanksgiving or birthdays, and enjoying Pete go up for seconds or thirds of all the food that was provided. I have wonderful memories of him attending my children's sporting events regularly. I enjoyed seeing Matt and his dad talk about fix it projects or cars. They came out to California for our wedding, came down here to NC for a wonderful visit. He was a strong man, an avid Steeler fan, and always made me laugh and smile. You will be greatly missed!

When I first met Pete and Carol (or as I called them Grandma and Pap), I instantly felt like a part of the Matessa family. Pap was so genuine and in general a friendly human. We personally really got along because everyone knows how much he loved to make jokes and use sarcasm! The only stories I've heard of Pap never have any harshness to them, but only include the surplus of love he had for Grandma and his family, and anything along the lines of life lessons. I'm so glad he was able to get that beauty of a dream car he so badly wanted. Pete loved his great-grandchildren so unbelievably much. Grandma and Pap never missed a major event - they drove down to our wedding in NC and also visited multiple times after we relocated to Raleigh, NC. I always made a fresh pot of coffee for him because I knew soon after that, he'd take one of his cat naps. I am so thankful we all got to spend this past Christmas with the whole Matessa family, as it is literally one of my favorite memories. We already miss him so terribly much, but we know he is at rest now and no longer in any pain. RIP.

I’m so sorry to hear about Uncle Pete’s passing. My condolences to everyone in the family. I always enjoyed our get togethers and listening to Dad and Pete share memories. I’ll also never forget our trip to Orlando/Disney when we were all just kids. I’ll hang on to the good times and use those to celebrate his life. Love and prayers to you all. ~Erik

So very sorry to hear about Pete's passing. Pete and I worked together at Sears Auto Center ( Allegheny Center Mall ) for my 9 years there 1969 to 1978. He was a great guy and co worker.

I will always cherish my wonderful memories with him, especially driving with him to get vanilla ice cream in his convertible and playing with an old hot wheels track, back in Pittsburgh. I loved him so much, I know that he didn't pass on with any hate or resentment in his heart because that was not the kind of man he was. He passed with his loving family members there for him, and a loving family to mourn him.

There is no doubt that Pete will be greatly missed. It seems surreal that he won’t be with us anymore at family get togethers. It’s something we will all have to get used to. Though he was a strong man with perseverance, he can finally rest in a better place. One day we will all be with him again and the others he has joined. May he rest in piece looking down with a smile. Our hearts go out to those closest to him who are hurting the most.
