

Portland-Marian C. (Turner) Anderson born August 7th, 1933 in Newton, Massachusetts, Marian Anderson, daughter of Enez Anderson Tweedle and Thomas Wedmore Tweedle, died in Portland, Maine on February 13th, 2011 after a long illness. After early years in Newton-Wellesley, Massachusetts, she was raised in West Hartford Connecticut where she attended William H. Hall High School. She graduated from Colby Junior College in 1953, and married C. Robin Turner in 1955. They had four children: Steven, Suzanne, Gail and Christine.
Marian lived with her family in Chatham, MA from 1957 until 1995. She was active in American Field Service (AFS) and other youth development and community programs. The first of many students hosted by the Turners, Gerard Tschopp of Switzerland, became a lifelong family-member. After her divorce in 1979, Marian divided her time between Boston and Chatham where she operated Marian’s Bed and Breakfast. Physically active, adventurous and very creative, Marian bicycled, solo, across the United States to celebrate her 50th birthday and participated in other national and international bicycling excursions.
She was an accomplished artist, studying at the Charles River Studios and participating in numerous workshops. In 1996 she moved to Newburyport, MA where she had an art studio until 2002. Marian was known for her exuberant laughter and love of life.
Marian is pre-deceased by her dear sister, Norma Ballew, and son-in-law, Scott Pease; and survived by her children, daughter-in-law Cynthia Goheen, grandchildren Kayla Cogle and Colin Lieberman, and a wide community of beloved friends.
A ceremony to celebrate her life will take place in Chatham this summer.
