

Mildred Thomas Rice died peacefully on Monday, June 5th at her home in Falmouth, ME. Born on May 30, 1925 to Ruth Abbie Hartshorn and Howard Quincy Thomas in Concord, NH, Millie was the fourth of six siblings: Helen Thomas, 97; Elizabeth (Betty) Densmore - deceased; John H. Thomas - deceased; Frances Davis - deceased and Margaret (Peggy) Moran - deceased.
She married Donald N. Rice, of Contoocook, NH, on June 16, 1947. They had three children: Douglas N. Rice, deceased, of Twin Falls, ID; Joanne Bossert of Asheville, NC; and Janette Gustafson, of Portland, ME. She also leaves behind six grand children: Abigail (Abi) Gustafson, Hunter (Jeremy) Bossert, J (Justin) Bossert, Julia Gustafson, Neal Rice and Richard Seth Gustafson. She welcomed her first great grandchild, Artemis Veda Vincent-Bossert on May 11th of this year.
Millie attended Concord High School and the University of New Hampshire, where she graduated with a degree in Art Education. Following her marriage to Don, she had a myriad of careers including: farmer's wife, florist, fabric department manager at Britt's Department Store in Concord and editor of Crochet World magazine.
Millie was a 50+ year member of the Mercy Hathaway White chapter of the National Society DAR. Her passions in life were first - her family, second - genealogy and third - home crafts. In retirement, she and Don volunteered at the NH Antiquarian Society in Hopkinton and traveled New England searching for ancestral records to complete the family history. She became a lifetime member of the Congregational Church in Hopkinton, the Double-Dozen and Rug Clubs.
Millie's funeral will be held on Saturday, August 12th at 11am, at the Hopkinton Congregational Church followed by a graveside service at the New Cemetary in Henniker. Arrangements are being made by Jones, Rich and Barnes in Portland, ME.
