Martha Wilson Homovec passed in her home on Friday, November 29, 2024. She was born at REX Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina on Saturday, December 9, 1950 to the late Quince and Norma Mathis, both of South Carolina.
Martha attended and graduated from Broughton High School in Raleigh. Subsequently, she attended St. Mary’s College in Raleigh and was given credit for an Associate Degree by NCDOT.
Martha worked in both private and public sectors. She resigned her private sector job to care for her mother in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Martha would eventually work for the State of NC in various capacities and retired as an Administrative Assistant at NC Wildlife Resources Commission.
Martha met Richard J. Homovec in May of 1986 and the two were wedded in September of 1986. Together they enjoyed a happy life, full of love and laughter, for 38 years. She held a special place in her life for their beagles, Mr. Peabody, Bagel, and Miss Daisy.
Martha’s volunteer commitments included First Presbyterian Church, Raleigh where she received the Governor James Martin Award for achievement. She and her husband, Richard, also worked on both the Special Olympics World Summer Games Management Team 1999 and, subsequently, the Special Olympics NC Games Management Team for several years.
Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Quince Edward Mathis and Norma Wilson Mathis of South Carolina.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard J. Homovec of Raleigh, North Carolina.

A funeral service for Martha Wilson Homovec will be held in the chapel at Mitchell Funeral Home on Monday, December 9, 2024 at 10:00 AM, with burial to follow at Raleigh Memorial Park.
