Henry A Tackett

Henry A. Tackett, 98 of Dallas, passed away at his home Sunday, May 12, 2019, surrounded by his family and loved ones. Henry was born on August 31, 1920 in Fort Worth, TX to Louis Jackson and Leuna (Brazier) Tackett.
As an avid radio hobbyist, Henry joined the U.S. Naval Communications Reserve, and when the U.S. joined WWII, he was called to active duty. As Chief Petty Officer Radioman, he was involved in many of the major sea operations of WWII, including the Battle Off Samar at Leyte Gulf, the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa, the Philippines Campaign, the raids and bombardments of Empire and Eniwetok, the landing at Emarau, and the battles of Tarawa, Gilberts, Solomon, Marshalls, Western Carolines, Kwajalein, and Palau Islands.
After his discharge, he married his wife, Virginia, and on the GI Bill, attended and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Texas Tech University. After traveling the world for 30 plus years in his business, he ended his long career as the Principal Designer and Manager of Communications for Continental Electronics Manufacturing Company.
Henry was a life-long radio enthusiast and a member of his ham radio club for 82 years. He was also an avid golfer and loved to read and work crossword puzzles. Over the years he was blessed with four daughters whom he loved dearly.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, daughters Cynthia Anne Greer, and Marjorie Ellen Davis and his beloved wife, Virginia.
He is survived by daughter Christine and husband Michael Smith, daughter Joyce Tackett, eight grandchildren and their spouses, thirteen great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Sparkman Funeral Home-Richardson, 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson, TX 75081. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 16 from 6-8 pm. The funeral service will be Friday, May 17 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. Burial will be at 3:30 at Roselawn Memorial Park, 3801 Roselawn Dr., Denton, TX 76207.
Services will be presided over by Henry’s long-time pastor, Dr. Jerry Castleberry of Liberty Baptist Church.
