OBITUARIO

Alan James Yoshioka

11 octubre , 195828 julio , 2019

Alan James Yoshioka passed away on July 28, 2019 after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest on Saturday, July 27. His passing was unexpected and he left us way too soon. Alan was born in San Jose, CA, and graduated from Oak Grove High school, where he excelled in academics, golf, and basketball. He went on to UC Berkeley, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Society). He was pursuing his master's degree when he accepted a full time job at ROLM Corporation as a software staff engineer. He continued at ROLM as it became IBM, and then Siemens. He then transitioned to a software engineer at CISCO Systems. In 2014 he began his career as a Development and Sustaining Engineer at Vocera Communications, where he worked until his untimely passing. Alan loved the game of golf. Though he was a single-digit handicapper with almost perfect form, he continued to tinker with his game, never satisfied with the outcome. He also loved all kinds of music, from rock to jazz to classical. He was an excellent handyman who could fix almost anything. Alan is survived by his loving wife Joyce; devoted children Kevin and Claire; and faithful dog Rocky. He is also survived by mother Agnes, brother Stan, sisters Karen (Ted Sanford) and Cheryl (Walt Louie), nieces Jessie and Anna Louie; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jean and Andy Kopania, and niece and nephew Emily and Ben Kopania. His quiet, unassuming nature will be missed by all who knew him. The family would like to thank Dr. Adrienne Valesano and the excellent emergency and ICU staff of the Kaiser Permanente Santa Teresa Hospital for their compassion and professionalism. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at the San Jose Buddhist Church Betsuin (640 N. 5th Street, San Jose, CA) on Thursday, August 22 at 11am. Refreshments will follow. Please dress casual. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association or to the junior golf organization of your choice.

I was very sadden to hear of Alan’s passing. We were neighbors and friends since kindergarten. I spent a lot of time at his house playing and having fun as kids do. We went through school together at Oak Grove Elementary, Caroline Davis middle school and Oak Grove high. We had since lost track of each other but, I would reflect about our good times together. Rest In Peace

I am sadden by the news of Alan's passing. Great colleague and person. Low key, a genuine being. To Alan's family, my deepest sympathy.

I was saddened to hear about the loss of Alan whom I had the privilege to work with at Cisco for a good 4+ years. We were in team and called ourselves "Team Incredibles" because of members like Alan himself. He was an incredible team player, always did what was best for the team, picked up the hardest issue to solve, and never backed out from any challenges. He was a very committed, very technical and great co-worker. Alan, thank you for all you have done and teaching me many valuable knowledge during those years. You'll be deeply missed!
To Alan's family: I hope you're surrounded by much love. My thoughts are with you and your family.

Alan and his beloved wife Joyce, were regular students in one of my group exercise classes.
One of the beautiful things I noticed about Alan was his devoted chivalry toward Joyce, always the gentleman doting over her, by providing her with foam rollers, mats, weights, and everything else he knew she would need for the workout.
Such a great example of the love a husband aught to show his beloved wife!
I am sure that Joyce must've deserved such treatment, but alas, in my own observation, so many good spouses do not receive such kind gestures after some short time of matrimony.

It's so hard to believe that I will not see him anymore, and will miss Alan's physical presence.

Thank you Alan for showing me the way to be a kind man.
Thank you to his parents who not only brought him into the world, but raised him to be a good man.

May his spirit be a reflection for all of us to follow as time passes bye.

Alan was a great person to work with and to have on your team, and that is the way that I knew him at Vocera. Willing to do the necessary sustaining work that others often disdained, capable of doing the new software feature development that others craved--he did both well and whenever needed. He was a quiet man but quick to speak up and offer to help or to add value to a discussion. It is appropriate that I remember him from those quiet moments in the morning when we were the first to arrive and "open up" the software department. Thanks for everything, Alan.

Alan was a great high school athlete in golf and basketball while also being an Honors student and great friend to all of us who knew him.
