For those who have known Gwen in her fruitful journey with us, a funeral service will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 9:30 am. Pastor Gary Ball of the Sarasota Trinity Church of the Nazarene will be officiating. In honor of Gwen, there will be a Celebration of Life Gathering at the National Cremation & Burial Society, Sarasota Florida at 11:00 am following the funeral.
Gwen was born in Crewe, Virginia on March 9, 1934 to Gertrude Michael and Fred Michael of Crewe, Virginia. After completing high school, she studied music at Longwood College, Virginia through November of 1953. Gwen was married to Harry M. Chaney on October 29, 1955 and they were happily married for 56 years until his passing on December 3, 2011. As a widow, we are glad that she was able to enjoy her remaining years spending time with her beloved companion, Will Stone.
Gwen’s most recent profession was a 20-year career in Real Estate. While working for Century 21 Realty, Gwen achieved awards such as the Million Dollar Sales Award. She then went on to open a private real estate firm, Real Estate Innovations, with her late husband Harry Chaney. After a successful career, they became owners of an office and condominium at the St. Regis Resort at Topsail Island, NC, where they enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren in the summers.
Gwen’s passion and delight was spending time with her family and friends. She was known for striking up conversations with strangers and loved making new friends and acquaintances. Her sense of humor and wit is what her family will miss most. She loved animals and enjoyed caring for wildlife that would regularly visit her home. She loved writing and gardening and had many types of plants and flowers in and around her home.
Gwen is survived by her two children; Michael Chaney and Sheri Schreiber, five grandchildren; John Michael Schreiber, Steven James Schreiber, Ashley Michelle Eckert, Madison Brooke Chaney and Garrett Michael Chaney, and five great-grandchildren; Grace Olivia Schreiber, Henry Joseph Schreiber, Clara Grace Schreiber-Stahl, Daniel Paxton Schreiber-Stahl, Elaina Dorothy Schreiber and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gwen’s name to the American Heart Association at https://www.heart.org/ would be welcomed. The family of Gwendolyn C. Stone wishes to thank all those who cared for her during her last years.
