It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brian James Balsdon, who entered into rest at Sunnybrook Hospital on Thursday, May 12, 2022 just short of his 80th birthday. Survived by the love of his life and wife of 50 years Marylyn. Beloved father to Greg (Cashlyn) and Megan (Andrew). Proud Grandpa to Aubrie. Predeceased by his dearest sister Lois (Ley). He was very fond of his nieces and nephews. Brian was a favourite teacher at Don Mills Collegiate for more than 35 years. He was awarded the prestigious Descartes Medal for his excellence in math teaching in 2002. Brian was a passionate curler and curling coach. He introduced hundreds of kids to the sport, including his own two children and watched with great pride as they went on to play at the Brier and Scotties Tournament of Hearts. His efforts were recognized by the Toronto Curling Association in 2016 when he received the Outstanding Contribution Award. Brian spent more than 40 years sailing Lake Ontario, enjoying the peace of being on the water. He was a lifelong jazz fan and spent many nights watching performances at The Rex, tapping his toe to the beat and sipping on a martini. A celebration of Brian's life will be held at Paul O’Connor Funeral Home, 1939 Lawrence Avenue East, Scarborough, Ontario, M1R 2Y8 on Saturday, May 28th, 2022. Memorial visitation from 1 - 3 pm. Service will be held in the Chapel at 3pm.
