Johnny was born June 5, 1925 in Chicago to John and Louise Kurina. They moved to a farm in Osage, Iowa. Johnny graduated from Mitchell High School in 1943.
He enlisted in the Navy and was transferred to the Seabees. He spent two years on islands in the Pacific, ending on the island of Okinawa. When he was discharged, he returned to Osage and married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Motland on August 10, 1945 in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Olive and Norm Gaardar.
After working for Anderson’s Plumbing and Seeber’s Standard Oil Company, they moved to Seattle where Evelyn’s sister Angie Denning and family lived. He worked for F.B. Connelly Company as Service Manager until retirement.
Johnny is survived by his wife Evelyn; their three children Ron Kurina, and identical twin daughters Barbara Boyle and Beverly Karschney and their families; grandsons John Karschney, David Kurina, Daniel Boyle, Jeff Boyle; eight great grandchildren; and many more relatives.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents John and Louise Kurina; parents-in-law Thelma and Christine Motland; sisters-in-law and husbands Laurine and Lloyd Olson, Angie and Bob Denning, and Olive and Norm Gaardar, brothers-in-law Len and Russell Motland; nephew Denny Gaardar; Betty Johnson; and cousins.
Johnny enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii, and playing the accordion.
