Mrs. Kennedy attended DeRidder High School. After high school, she worked as a bookkeeper for Ballard Inc. for approximately 20 years. Dovie was passionate in her faith. She served the Lord through teaching and sharing her love in Christ with others. Dovie taught Sunday School at Calvary Baptist Church for many years.
Mrs. Kennedy always had a smile that would light up any room. She never complained about anything, regardless of the troubles she was facing. She truly was an inspiration to all. Dovie was a loving, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and friends. She was known for her fantastic cooking. She always enjoyed the opportunity to fellowship with others.
Mrs. Kennedy is preceded in death by her husband Delton S. Kennedy; her mother, Ollie McConathy; and a brother Dan Sanders.
She is survived by her sons, Rev. Jerry Kennedy and wife Tina and Richard Kennedy; daughter, Nancy Strong and husband Ronny; grandchildren, Steven Kennedy and wife Patricia, Stephanie Phelan and husband John, Jason Strong and wife Nelly, Heather Edwards and husband Seth, Erin Kennedy and Hannah Kennedy; 13 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Kennedy is also survived by many other family members and friends.
A service celebrating the life of Dovie Lois Kennedy will be held on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, 10:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Interment will take place in Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating services will be Rev. Jerry Kennedy. Visitation with the family will be Monday March 8th from 4 until 6 PM at the funeral home.
Honoring Mrs. Kennedy as Pallbearers will be Steven Kennedy, Jason Strong, John Phelan, Ronny Strong, Jas Kennedy and Seth Edwards.
