Richard P. Short

Richard P. Short, 66, of Springfield, passed away at 5:35 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2002 at Memorial Medical Center. Richard was born July 21, 1935 the son of Harry A. and Lucy D. Patteson Short in Springfield. He married Carolyn L. Kunz July 10, 1954 at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Richard was employed by the State Journal Register for 19 years, Illinois State Board of Education from 1972-1990 and the Mid-Illinois Caliper Company for 5 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Parish, Holy Name Society, Dominican Laity and a volunteer with the Heart Felt Program with Memorial Medical Center. He was a charter Member of Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and Sangamon State University. He was a past member of Knights of Columbus #4179. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving from 1958 to 1964. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister: Betty Jane Warner and one brother: Harry A. Short, Jr. He is survived by his wife: Carolyn L. Short of Springfield, two sons: Michael A. (wife, Sherri L.) of Springfield, Joel E. Short of Springfield; two daughters: Maria A. (husband, James R.) Enlow of Springfield, Sara E. (Fiancé David M. Decatoire) Short of Springfield; three grandchildren: Anthony, Lucas and Natalie Enlow and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at St. Joseph Catholic Church from 3:30-7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002. Visitation will begin with a wake service at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 8, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Reverend Daniel Nolan C.S.V. celebrant.
