

Clifford L. Poole of Springfield, Virginia, passed away on October 20TH at Fairfax Hospital after a brief illness. Cliff was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Hazel Kesler Poole, two daughters, Sandra Poole Eberhard (Gerald) and Brenda Poole (Chris DiPetto), and five grandchildren, Amy and Clifford Eberhard and Gabriella, Joseph Clifford, and Harrison DiPetto. He is also survived by brother in-law, Norman Kesler, and sister-in-laws Betti Kesler and Ann Kesler, and many dear nieces and nephews.
Cliff was born on August 15, 1917, in Salisbury, North Carolina. He was the fifth of six children of Arthur and Joice Poole. After graduation from Rockwell High School, he attended Rowan Tech and went to work for the North Carolina highway department. Shortly after his marriage to Hazel in 1939, they moved to Alexandria, Virginia, where Cliff worked in the Torpedo Factory. During World War II he served in the Pacific Theater and after the Japanese surrender was stationed in occupied Japan. After the War, Cliff worked as an engineering technician for the federal government retiring from the Army Night Division Laboratory in 1977.
Cliff has been an active member of Springfield United Methodist Church for fifty-five years and a member of the Springfield Masonic Lodge for over fifty years. The Poole's moved to the Green Spring Retirement Community in 2000 where Cliff was active in the woodshop and enjoyed fellowship and helping others. Cliff had a wonderful personality and greeted everyone with a big smile.
Visitation will be held at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, Virginia, on Thursday, October 24th, from 2 to 4; and 6 to 8. A funeral service will be held at Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield, Virginia, on Friday, October 25th, at 2 PM. Internment with full military honors will be held at Quantico National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Springfield United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in memory of Cliff Poole or the INOVA Heart and Vascular Institute General Fund (https://foundation.inova.org/donate-now) in memory of Cliff Poole.
