Hubert Carl Hanson died November 27, 2017 in The Villages, FL of pneumonia and congestive heart failure at the age of 91 and 8 months. Hubert was born in Pine City, MN, on March 11, 1926; the youngest of nine children born to Hans and Christine Hanson. After his father’s death in 1929, the family moved back to their hometown, Cambridge, MN. Hub was drafted by the Army to serve in WWII. He was very grateful to the GI bill and used it to attend Augsburg College in Minneapolis where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Chemistry; followed by his graduate studies which prepared him for his long teaching career. He met Marilyn Lee in 1958 while they were teaching at Richfield Senior High in Minnesota. They made their home in Bloomington, MN, where they raised their two children Holly and Hal. In 1976 they purchased property on Long Lake in Park Rapids, MN, and built a home where they spent weekends throughout the school year, every summer, and eventually retired there in 1989. In 2007 they purchased a home in The Villages FL with the idea of spending winters but in 2012 they said goodbye to snow and changed their residency to Florida. It is difficult to put in a paragraph who Hubert was. He was passionate about his faith, his family, and teaching. Among many other things! He was a joyful man that enjoyed a good cup of coffee, the Swedish habit of “visiting” (all things Swedish actually), the great outdoors (camping, canoeing, fishing and yes, even raking), and reading. He was an eternal optimist and was thankful for everything from the sunshine to a soft pillow to lay his head. In his later years Hub enjoyed traveling with beloved wife Marilyn, hanging out with their amazing circle of friends, and a special highlight was the WWII Honor Flight in 2013 to Washington DC. He is survived by his wife Marilyn of over 58 years, daughter Holly Batton (Sean McGovern), and son Hal (Lynn Hanson), and two grandchildren John Batton and Clay Batton. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Memorials in memory of Hubert may be given to House of Hope, c/o Hope Lutheran Church, 250 Avenida Los Angelos, The Villages, FL 32162.
