Robert J. Mallon, Sr. (“Bob”) passed peacefully on May 30, 2020 at Haven Hospice in Gainesville, FL after an unfortunate turn of health events related to an infected foot from kicking life in the butt. Friends and family will remember Bob as a generous, kind, fun lover of life. An Irishman who enjoyed keeping his friends close through an open door policy (as long as he liked you), many rounds of golf, beers at Bonifay, poker night, Super Bowl parties, and other moments too many to count. Bob’s pre-Florida (The Villages) years were spent on Long Island, sharing life with his wife, Sue, raising his sons, Robert and Daniel, boating, fishing, beaching, and skiing with family and friends in Vermont.
Bob was a rare breed who loved life and lived by a simple set of rules: own a good suit, shine your own shoes, keep the fridge stocked with beer, and apparently keep a ‘black book’ listing friends that owe you gambling money!
Bob died the way he lived life – his way. The last hours were a true miracle and blessing of circumstances where he was surrounded by his best friends and immediate family. There were laughs, tears, and cheers – Bud Light, a “bottle of red, bottle of white”, and a Sambuca with three coffee beans.
Bob served his country proudly in Vietnam by enlisting in the United States Navy in 1962 and serving until 1966. Upon his return from service Bob met his loving wife Susan Ellen Thibault (Mallon). Bob spent over forty years with the New York Telephone Company, a great story of commitment and success that is hard to find in today’s world.
Bob was born in Queens, New York to Marion Claire and William Joseph Mallon. He is predeceased by wife Susan Ellen Mallon, brothers William, James, Timothy and Edward and sister Marion. Survived by sisters Patricia and Jennifer and brother Michael. Proud grandfather of Connor and Lucas (Lucky) and father-in-law to Abigail Elaine Mallon.
Information on a “Celebration of Life” on Long Island and The Villages is forthcoming. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions Bob is waiting for a country club or bar to open that is fitting for the celebration he requested (and has enough Bud Light in stock). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the AHRC on behalf of his sister, Jennifer Mallon @ https://www.ahrc.org/getinvolved/donate/
