Evelyn was born and raised to the proud Danish parents, Martin and Marie Jensen, where she and her sister Lila, grew up in Luverne, North Dakota. She attended High School in Long Island, New York where she graduated valedictorian of her class. Evelyn met the love of her life, La Reu, at Staub Memorial Congregation Church in Portland. She worked as a secretary for a while but found her greatest vocation being a homemaker.
In the home, Evelyn was gifted with several talents that she would share with family and friends. One of her talents was her “amazing green thumb” in her rose garden. Roses were always visible in the yard, the home and in things she created. She was a skilled seamstress, sewing many clothes and had a knack for creating beautiful draperies and comforter sets. Her talents were not lost in the kitchen either; she was best known for her scalloped potatoes, amazing cookies, Stollen Coffee Cake, sticky buns and Chinese chews. Evelyn was always prepared to serve a special treat and coffee to whomever happen to stop by to visit.
During her married life and raising the family Evelyn and La Reu ventured to many destinations, making their home in Monterey Park, CA; Bainbridge Island, WA; several Oregon cities of Medford, Portland, Lake Oswego, Newberg and finally King City.
When La Reu retired at age 59, he and Evelyn began a new chapter filled with adventures both home and abroad. Traveling was always on the horizon for Evelyn and La Reu. They toured Europe; Israel, where Evelyn rode a camel; to Mexico; Hawaii; and sailing off the coast of South America. In the states they would cruise in the RV to Newport Beach, CA. They took many trips to the Oregon coast, camping in their motor home, enjoying clamming and several trips to Shasta Lake.
One of her greatest joys was being “grandma” to her four grandchildren and later the eight great-grandchildren. The family gatherings were a passion of Evelyn’s. The special Sunday brunches together, after church, as family, meant everything to her.
Evelyn Fulmer is preceded in death by La Reu, her husband of 52 years, and her parents Martin and Marie Jensen. Survived by her only sister, Lila, children Gary (Linda), Carol (Ray); and by grandchildren Deyla, Dane, Brett and Christine; and her eight great-grandchildren.
