It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden passing of Jerry Demchuk on August 6, 2025, just 3 days before his 74th birthday. Jerry had a kind heart and was a caring person who always tried to do the right thing. Jerry was predeceased by his parents John and Kathleen Demchuk; leaving to mourn is his best friend and true love April Carter who was always there for him. Left behind are his daughters Cherilyn and Christine Demchuk and his grandchildren; His siblings: Virginia Demchuk in Saskatoon, SK., Robert Demchuk in Toronto, On. and Richard Wayne in Bodo, AB. ; Niece Roxanne Fandrey (Greg) and her children Michael Fandrey, Shane Fandrey and Joshua Fandrey in Saskatoon; Nephew Victor Fandrey (Gina) in Montreal and nephew Arron Demchuk and his children Brady and Kira in Regina, SK. as well as cousins and close friends.
Jerry grew up on a farm a couple of miles east of Good Spirit Lake in the Canora and Burgis area in Saskatchewan together with his sister Virginia the oldest, Robert, and Richard the youngest. Robert and Jerry were the closest in age and spent the most time together growing up and getting into mischief. They would never tell on each other!! Jerry was mostly quiet and shy. He loved the farm, the animals, chickens, ducks, geese, Mom’s big gardens, and going to the lake for a swim and weiner roast during the hot days of summer. He was neat and somewhat of a perfectionist. We all attended the rural elementary school of Poplar Springs, and moved on to Canora Composite High School. Jerry was around 16 when he decided to leave home for a life of more opportunity in the big metropolis of Toronto of bright lights and tall skyscrapers where he lived, worked and will remain forever.
In Jerry’s early days in Toronto he completed his high school education while working various jobs. He tried his hand at stock car racing and owned a corvette in his early days. Always enjoyed owning a luxury car and taking an occasional holiday to get away from work. Jerry’s started his work career servicing highway trucks then moved to construction business doing all types of renovations which he enjoyed and took pride in his meticulous work. Jerry worked hard all of his life maintaining quality workmanship always wanting to please and be helpful.
For most of our lives we lived two provinces apart. There were visits back and forth full of memories but never enough time. Rick made several trips to Toronto in his younger years to work for Jerry. Richard said that truthfully they didn’t spend too much time visiting instead, they would be working together trying to make ends meet, that he had fun learning so many things on the job and Jerry always had a place for him to stay in Toronto which he appreciated very much. Jerry won’t have too work hard any more and now can rest. He’ll be super missed along with his cute laugh. Jerry will always be in his younger brother’s heart and mind.
Bob moved to Toronto 25 years ago to be closer to his brother Jerry.
Jerry was an optimist always trying to do his best. He will be lovingly remembered and surely missed by his family and all those who cared to know him.
Jerry wished that his remains be cremated and there will be no formal funeral or memorial in his honour.
